A New Twist on an Old Favorite

I don't just design things for other people, I do them for myself as well. Everything I design is something that I would want in my own house. And sometimes I'm inspired to add a new twist on one of my earlier designs, as in this case.

My important dates print is one of my most popular items. I love doing those for people because I get to see the evolution of a family--from just two people as it grows into more. I get a little mini history through the dates they give me.

I just had my third child in October. As I was getting ready to put away some of the mementos from our hospital stay, I had an idea. Instead of boxing everything up, why did I create a shadow box to show off all the keepsakes from all of my children? I got the shadow box from red envelope. I just used the items to cover up the picture holes.My sons each had shirts they wore at the hospital as well as their hospital bracelets and hats (can you tell that my youngest is a Halloween baby?) My daughter has her hat (she was born at a different hospital so hers is not as fancy), booties she wore, hospital bracelet and the little bow her daddy picked out for her to wear. I  used straight pins to secure everything in place.

 I left the 5x7 picture slot available and created a new version of the important dates print. It has my children's birthdays with their names and birth information underneath. At the bottom it says, "what a difference a day makes" and isn't that the truth!

At this point in my life, it seems like all my friends are having babies. I am constantly buying baby gifts and ooohing and aaahing over all the cute baby accessories. And it always seems like, without fail, I am off to the baby shower or to deliver my gift and I realize that I have forgotten a card. RATS! Normally, I wouldn't care so much, but I loved keeping the cards from all the baby gifts I received for my kids. So instead of always going without, or hastily writing a note on piece of paper, I decided I should just have some cards up my sleeve for just an emergency as this. 

These cards are formatted to be printed on a standard-sized piece of paper. For best results, print on card stock but in a pinch, regular paper will work just fine. Just fold your paper in half and there you go--a cute card for the new mom! After doing these cards, I was inspired for so many other designs and prints for cards of all occasions, so you definitely haven't seen the last of my printable cards!

October Freebie!

I promised I would be back with more freebies and am so pleased with how this one turned out. My friend, R, actually inspiried this print. R. mentioned on facebook that she wanted to hang this quote in her house. The quote has been floating around facebook/pinterest for a while now, but the image that went with it wasn't very cute. I wanted R. to have something cute to hang in her little girl's room. Then, since I have a baby boy, wanted to design something suitable for a boy's room too. It took me a little bit to find the perfect backgrounds/patterns to accompany the quote. Thanks ScrapOrchard for the awesome patterns! These can be printed in a variety of sizes and would look adorable framed, as part of the nursery decor, or even printed smaller as a card or to go along with a baby shower gift. In fact, this print would be the perfect addition to my baby onsie monthly milestone stickers.
